Looks like a new teaser out last night.

The one thing I liked about the Omni is the fact that you had a rough idea as to how much the final product would be. Then when you get to the shoes, the harness and the Omni, there was a major price PER USER that had to be considered.

I like that when you crouch, the platform moves with you, but I don't know that crouching and moving forward will be easy or even possible inside the confines of the ring. Stationary crouching may be doable, but moving while crouched or prone will still be pretty interesting to see happen.

This strikes me as a little more thought out than the Omni as far as the movement goes, but if the price is much higher than the Omni, the Omni would win out for me. I just wish they would put information like what their current price point target will be for the consumer version and expected quarter/year for consumer release.

We all know that with projects like this, dates change, but telling people a target that, based on current tracking, could be met and keeping people up with any major updates that seriously alter that date/quarter would be prudent with as heated up as this market is getting.

Damn, I didn't thought about testing walking while crouching when I tried it :-( Would be interesting to test that.
Regarding pricing, schedules etc: I believe we will get those infos soon. I wouldn't expect this solid metal thing to be as cheap as the plastic Omni (obviously). Question is: can we even compare the two in terms of stability and immersion. I'm afraid we need to wait till someone gets his(her hands on both (final) products to tell us. For the Rift we knew before that it will be better than the competition, because the competition was already out (and sucked), but here we se the birth of two similar (at least in terms of the goals of the device) devices nearly in parallel.

Interesting video. Summed up: The Omni guys wanted 2,000,000$ for 10% of the company and all venture capitalists said "lol, no way". As much as I love the idea of an affordable ODT (and a well made ODT is worth more than 500 bucks IMHO), the Omni guys might overestimate there sales for the next month. Games need better support (analog walking/running speeds for example), strong competition is on the horizon (Cyberith) and not every gamer has the space to store an ODT.
Don't underestimate the space thing: You want the ODT near your PC, mouse and keyboard accessible while being inside the ODT (launch games etc), headphone and Rift cables mounted above you, nothing close enough what you might nock over without noticing... It's not a balance board or DDR platform that you place in front of your TV in 10 seconds and remove as quickly, you might want a place in your flat where everything is always assembled so you only need to hop in for an hour after work.

I noticed two things in the video: "crouching" was not crouching, it was just a "bend over" gesture :-(
But as the guy slipped and was hanging in the thing it made a more solid impression as I had expected, so that a nice surprise :-)

Can't wait to try one out and compare it with the Virtualizer :D

Ultimate setup:

Rift with suspended cables from above
FPS Revo Controller for Shooters
Cyberith Virtualizer ODT
Logitech 5.1 Wireless Headphones with 6hour battery life
Voice Control software for computer control with Rift on - to eliminate keyboard/mouse necessity while Rifting

Forget the 5.1 Headphone - what for? You only have two ears and the Rift knows where they are heading! Use binaural audio and a normal stereo headphone -> way better surround impression!

Love the new Arma 3 video, the 9 stance positions really fits the Virtualizer.

I didn't see any bits on any of the prone stances, I was curious if that was going to be something that ended up better left to a keypress?

Very impressive! One question though, how does the Virtualizer know if you wanna crouch or sit?

Come on Omni, find a way to make us sit too!

It is one of the most amazing things I've seen in a while. It is better than omni and feels far easier to use and get used too.
