Between sleeping and getting out of bed I thought through a little design for tactile haptic gloves. I thought the idea was cool and just spent the last hour trying to articulate my thoughts on virtual paper. So here it is! What do you think? Anyone else ever draw their own? :DIf image seems cut off Image Link: http://imgur.com/hnotQDN
I must say I am thrilled to be up and running. It was not easy (being on a mac might have been the cause) nonetheless I am running and I was able to do a quick OVR build. I do have a question and I was hoping it would be in the Best Practice Guide, but it is not. Is it best to go with 4k vs 2k textures for VR content? WOuld 8k break it? The things that still blows my mind is when you peak over and can the see the underside of an object. That said - playes or explorers will get up close to surfaces. Low res ruins it for me personally. Would like to know if any has used anything over 4K textures. Thanks
I just installed the new SDK for my Macbook Pro. Not a fancy machine, not top of the line, but a decent machine for game development. Let me back up a bit. I tried running the Tuscany VR demo on my daughters PC. A good HP computer with quadcore and 8 gigs of ram. Decent graphics card for what a 450+ computer would give you. I noticed a lot of judder when testing the Tuscany Demo. Still a pleasant experience. I enjoyed the heck out of it   Last night I finally figured out how to run one of the Tuscany demos on my mac. I had to drag the darn game window to the oculus screen to see it(fixed on extended display). But when I did that I notcied NO judder, NO latency, the fracking thing just worked beautifully :o :o :o . I mean gosh darn it i felt like i was really there until I stood up that is. Felt like tipping over from moving around. That's just it... my brain was fooled and that's what it's all about for me.. I loved it so much. So kudos for getting it right Oculus team..K
Hey all,Im wondering if anyone knows more about Overclocking than I do. It can't be hard!!:) Ive always built my own PC's. whenever I overclocked I would normally take the easy route and use for example, Asus AutoTune etc. I have never really spent the time to look into it further. I know I can get better clocks, and better voltages doing it manually.Well, I overclocked my new gaming rig yesterday, manually, and I was wondering if you think I could push it further, have a good chip? etc etc. My setup is a Rog Maximus Vii Ranger, an i5 Haswell 4760K cooled with a NZXT Kraken X40 watercooler, MSI Twin Frozr 780ti, Avexir Blitz 2311C9 Memory SSD's etc.I have it running at 4.4Ghz atm, with a max temp on full load of 67Dec C stable with a voltage of 1.93V. I edged the voltage up until Prime ran stable. (room was quite warm) Temps never go above 56DegC gaming. As said above, question is, would it be worth pushing it to 4.5Ghz, or 4.6Ghz? Is it worth it? Would I notice any difference in gaming
Hoping to get my Oculus faster. Anyone have recommendations on where to live? I heard Germany and UK are fairly friendly to Americans despite the history. Also, do either country recognize American certifications, like Six Sigma and PMP? Would be helpful for job prospects. Thanks!
Hello.I've seen Sixense developers in this forum. I would like to ask if you plan on getting a Tuscany VR version for DK2.That was the first demo I tried, and daaaamn it totally blew my mind. (I had only used Vuzix HMDs previously) It convinced me to buy DK1, and now DK2, and although after a few minutes with that demo I became dizzy, I would love to try it again in DK2 and I think most people would like it too.I checked the website http://sixense.com/sixensetuscanydemo and there is no mention of DK2.Edit: Oops apparently I posted this on Oculus Lounge instead of "Oculus ready games and demos".Ha, sorry about that. The question still stands though.
No restaurants in my area that require coat and tie... wtf?Its Palmer's fault imo.
Hi,I am an avid user of FSX or P3D so I am certainly looknig forward to the next Oculus build. Regarding the head tracking, i have used TracIR5 for quite a while and I was wondering whether any features would be built in for the head tracking:Firstly, a head reset. Sometimes you can pause the game and when you get back, the control isn't calibrated anymore. Is there going to be a button on the headset or can you map it to a joystick or a keyboard command?Secondly, a head tracking pause button. In FSX when you ahve to press a lot of switches, it is convenient to switch off the head tracking so you can use a hat switch to actually press all the switches. The same question applies for how you could control this.Thank you,Peter Anson
This is a question i've been wanting to ask though never truly got around to it.Though, out of curiosity...What is the actual difference between a DK1 1.0 Rift, versus a DK1 1.1 Rift?
The PC is dying a slow death. People no longer want the bulky ATX tower in their homes or have a dedicated space for them. Today, modern people and families have maybe a laptop and touchscreen devices, phones and tablets. Everything mobile, wifi, and usable anywhere in the home.Surely the PC isn't going away, but I think more people would like to have a PC if only it was more compact.I could probably fit 200 mobile phones into my ATX tower, yet my PC is not 200 times more powerful than a mobile phone. Is it not possible to reinvent this ATX form factor to create a much more compact style of a PC, whilst maintaining the extensibility and power? At my office, I'm the last PC ATX holdout, everybody have moved over to laptops. And nobody around me, family and friends, have a PC tower like I do. It's a relic that is disappearing fast into the dustbin of history.
How long have you had yours?
I have briefly tried a DK1, but have little knowledge of how to setup my incoming DK2. I would appreciate any answers to my newbie questions.Xbox controllerCan I get away with using an Xbox 360 controller and still have a decent experience? Is it a great experience? Does it work with most games/demos?Keyboard and MouseIs it better to use a keyboard and mouse, rather than an Xbox controller? Is it a problem that you can't see the keyboard?Mac SupportI have Windows 7 installed with Bootcamp. Should I just plan on running Windows 7 or are there enough Rift demos that run on Mac OSX? Do I need to buy Windows 8?Intel Iris integrated graphicsI can play Half-Life 2 at 1920x1080 on my MacBook at 200 to 300 FPS, dropping to no less than ~90 fps when a bunch of barrels explode. Can I expect the same framerate when I play Half-Life on the DK2, or does rendering two different viewports at 960x1080 each reduce the FPS?Besides old Source games, is anything else playable on Intel Iris? (just I

Hey guys!Ive been obsessed with the Rift and have been watching a ton of videos. I ordered the DK2 to possibly develop some videos or games and of course to play games with it. I went to a meetup and tried VR and the DK1 for the first time. I was sooo pumped and thought I would get the same graphics and experience that I saw in other videos posted on youtube. I felt like the graphics weren't that great and the screen door effect made it worse. Yes rift coaster had a few good experiences and Senza Peso as well. So it got me thinking to what Palmer said. If your not a developer DONT buy the DK2. After trying the DK1 I cancelled my DK2 order the same night. I felt like the DK1 was ok but still alot of work needed. I realize the DK2 will have better graphics and less screen door. Also if I did get the DK2 id need to upgrade the PC WHICH wasn't a factor at all. I just feel like Palmer is right. If you want a solid CLEAN experience then you should wait for the CV1 hopefully by then the games
Well, I really do enjoy the Oculus rift, mostly because I just enjoy the idea of virtual reality and this is promising. I want to go into college/the game industry for something more technical but I have 0% idea of what I actually want to do. Programming was never something I was all for, it was okay but ehh. Game testing isn't bad either but again, meh. A lot of you, I think, are developers, you make games, you are at least in some way, even though indie, in the game industry and some of you do it as a living. I thought with so many people, and the fact that I want to work in something you're all sort of experienced in, you could give me a few hints. I don't know what would be a good match for me or what are the possible options in the gaming industry. Advice would be very helpful.

Does anyone know if Oculus VR or any other Virtual Reality tech company ever looked into the research done by Duke University regarding brain implants and their ability to make Macaques (monkeys) feel the texture of virtual objects? I attached the link to the scientific journal Nature where it was published a couple of years ago: http://www.nature.com/news/2011/111005/full/news.2011.576.htmlI know this research has no possible short term applications, and that it will be well into the future until this sort of research can even begin to be tested on humans. Notwithstanding, I'd like to know what the community involved on the forefront of Virtual Reality think of the possibilities of such a technology or even if such a technology could actually be compatible with any VR commercial applications in the future and not just the obvious applications on the medical field?I am currently doing some research on this subject but there seems to be very little information on the matter out there, s

I would like to buy a DK1 case. Only the case with original foam inserts. Going to mod it to hold a DK2. I would very much like for the case to be in perfect condition. Anybody? You can set the price for the case and the shipping, but I reserve the rights to say no if I don't like it. I live in Norway. I'm guessing PayPal would be the choice of payment, but for Norway a bank transfer is ok for me. I'm open for everything as long as it seems fair.Any images of the case would be great too.

Perhaps this is a sign of things to come, as long as Google can implement a type of VR streaming? Google's YouTube division has acquired Twitch for $1 billion cash monies. This should help with the Twitch issues that CymaticBruce is constantly going on about.Source: http://www.techsonia.com/google-to-acquire-twitch-for-1-billion/1918427/
I've tried many demos since creating my cardboard a couple weeks ago (have DK2 shipping soon, can't wait!). I noticed there are a couple of ways to handle player body rotation, either physically rotate your whole physically body, or use a controller axis to rotate the virtual body. I didn't really like either of these experiences and wanted to be able to rotate my virtual body using the rotation of my physical head. I haven't seen a demo yet use this method, so I created this experiment in Unity and exported to Android format via Durovis Dive SDK.I made a demo for my cardboard and wanted to share. You will need a controller (I am using an Xbox 360 controller connected to my S3 via OTG cable). After you launch, the first thing you want to do is face forward and press "joystick button 0", for me that's A button. This is to calibrate center axis rotation. Press this regularly throughout the demo if you feel off balance but don't hold this button in.https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B0UKIsZ
