I was really excited for this until I saw the prices. Ouch. A bit too much for me as I would only be using it for fun.I know they want to use it to sell STEM systems aswell but I was only interested in the Rift compatibility tbh.Oh well!

This thread is for anyone thinking about or currently implementing olfactory solutions into their immersion experience (This isn't the first thread to mention smell, but if there is another that is dedicated to the topic I would like to be redirected). You can even talk about things like hanging a pouch of cut grass from your neck for "outdoor" games, or improvised rigs to navigate an array of scented candles/compartments. Could this lead to more demand for the perpetually unappreciated scent peripheral products market?Do you recommend any digital scent technology products, and can they be voice controlled?

someone on amazon is still selling the dev kits for 600 bucks. I guess this is an artifact of early scarcity and delivery delays. I feel sorry for who ever gets ripped off by this

If they made this for the Xbox One and the Rift I would consider dumping PS consoles. 8-) The hand tracking here really looks amazing:http://research.microsoft.com/apps/video/dl.aspx?id=173838

I'm not talking about something recent. I am actually talking about the original tech demo that was on display at Epcot in Disney World many years ago. I remember when I was a kid I had a chance to try it and that demo really blew my mind at the time. "This is the future, its almost here!" Or at least that what I was thinking when I tried it on. However it was not anywhere near the oculus rift as far as being in any capacity that the regular consumer could buy it. The head mounted display was so heavy it had to be suspended from the ceiling, and you sat on what looked like a motorcyle and used a handle bar of sorts to propel Alladin's carpet around the city looking for scarabs to pickup. I remember it all very vividly today it was very well done and the graphics were surprisingly amazing for its time. 1996-ish or earlier?Apparently over 45,000 people play tested this so I can't be the only one. I was hoping though maybe someone else had some more information on the demise of this reall

I just saw this and it got me thinking that the PC could be in trouble if this happens natively and does not require an Eagle Eye or Frag FX to achieve mouse and keyboard support on the PS4. When you think about it the PS4 is a computer and making it work would be the easiest thing ever. With the PS4 being powerful as a mid priced gaming computer, along with this development, we may see a mass exodus to consoles! :o  :o  :o  http://www.vg247.com/2013/07/08/battlefield-4-could-get-ps4-mouse-keyboard-support-says-dice/

ironically the poster is all about covering the eyes, not opening them...

Has anyone else been following Kingdom Come: Deliverance game? It looks like it's going to be really good. It's going to be a realistic RPG set in medieval Europe. So no dragons or zombies. They just put it on kickstarter today and it's already 1/3 of it's way to being backed. It's being made with Cryengine which supports Occulus Rift by default, so I'm really looking forward to it. I won't link it cos I don't know if thats allowed, have a look though.

Hi,This is a minor bugbear I have but if I find something on Google or find a link to an item in this forum on a another website.. I always get taken to the front page and not the link I wanted (this is after logging in) - usually a site will remember where I wanted to go and take me there./rant over :)

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/05/31/opinion/brooks-the-romantic-advantage.html?_r=1&In the race to be the world’s dominant economy, Americans have at least one clear advantage over the Chinese. We’re much better at branding. American companies have these eccentric failed novelists and personally difficult visionary founders who are fantastic at creating brands that consumers around the world flock to and will pay extra for. Chinese companies are terrible at this. Every few years, Chinese officials say they’re going to start an initiative to create compelling brands and the results are always disappointing.USA and China recently entered a solar manufacturing war, USA industry fell first, but China is now beginning to experience a collapse in thier sector. This would be a good industry for our government to get behind and promote "american exceptionalism" to sell to the voting public. I have friends in DC and one at the pentagon that could get behind this govern support of the indus

This is a game currently on KickStarter. First and foremost, it's a niche targeted MMORPG. Meaning it's not trying to appeal to everyone like a game like WoW. I can attest to the woes of such an approach myself, as WoW failed to appeal to me with its lack of a focus on an audience. This MMORPG is either for you, or it isn't. Simple as that.So what is this game? If you know what EverQuest 1 was, you could say it's a spiritual successor to that. It's made by the same project leader as the original EverQuest and its first 2 expansions. Additionally it's packed with many veterans on staff from that and other MMORPGs.Pantheon will provide challenge where other games would provide "EasyMode".It will be group based and community focused, where other games would be solo heavy with linear "questing on rails" through quest hubs. While PvP is a stretch goal – likely a set of servers – this will be a PvE focused game (for once!!!!). This game is primarily about working together with other people, n

I'm wanting to learn some Japanese in my spare time. "When I'm not working on my rift project". Any pointers/leads? I think I'd might be able to learn quite a bit by the end of 2014. (Thinking about making this my new years resolution).~Thanks in advance!

Well due to popular demand here is the thread for the Australian and New Zealand rift goers to keep in touch and maybe even one day come together for some Riftacular and maybe OcuLAN times ahead, lol.So come together and start posting about your rift experiences and anything else that may grab our rift attention.(note - alot of rift puns and maybe went overboard).

... I just had to do it  To be or not to be!

I got to try the Oculus Rift for the first time this week at a local IGDA meeting in Minneapolis. I wrote about my first experience and first impressions on my blog, but the experience was also very inspiring creatively.Obviously there are going to be many first-person games, in particular FPS games, for the Rift. But I think there's a lot of potential for other applications, and that's what excites me more. Think of being an eye floating above a 3d abstract puzzle game, whose environment you are a part of. Think of playing a 3d sidescrolling platformer, but instead of playing it on your TV, it is like you've moved inside of the screen and you now occupy the same space as the characters you control. You could watch a 3 inch tall Mario walking, running, and jumping his way through a model-sized game level laid out in front of you.Imagine yourself a few years in the future when the Rift has a resolution beyond the "Retina" display densities of today. Let's say resolution of the Rift h

Hey, so I registered on the forums right at the start and was posting lots of game design advice and ideas. Not long after that though I changed my name due to family reasons, now being called Louis Arrigoni, but I cant seem to find any way to change my user name on the forums as I'd rather be called LouisA - is this possible at all? Making a new account would mean not being able to have full forum access for a while and being deattatched from my other posts and stuff..

I was just thinking..Do you think the nausea we have when drinking to much, come from the visual latency involved by alcohol ? :o

This is the year folks. VR is finally going to pull the general public in. Start saving your coins because this year we are going to have some things to buy. I can't hardly wait. Salute!Michael Tenery (aka Calanar)

Sorry if my title is slightly misleading but that's what the movie claims! Right at the 0:50 mark  I am seriously pumped for this movie and anything that helps bring about the singularity!Plug me in!

So,it's been over a year now since we got a glimpse at what VR might bring us through our beloved Development Kit. We've been kept busy with a steady stream of tiny bits of information regarding what OculusVR is up to behind closed doors. However, when it comes to solid facts on the current state of development, official statements on current or future specs or tasty new images out of the development process and the latest HMD-creations there's hardly anything new brought to us backers, developers and straight enthusiasts. What I'm kindly asking you, Palmer, is wouldn't it be about time to pull down those panties and show us what you got in store right now? Maybe as a little Christmas present to the community? :D Kind regards,David

I've been contacted by a really small partnership company called pipelineshockstudios (http://pipelineshockstudios.com/)and they want me to join their company (how ever they're really small at the moment and they seem alright) but I want to join some bigger partners (but I've always heard, that you have to start off small in order to become a big deal) on YouTube. I'm trying really hard to get my YouTube channel off the ground and its doing really well (because the fact my channel is only 2 months old I have 24 subscribers and over 2800 views.)I blocked his name for safe reasons.Heres their message " Hey my name is T-------------- P----------, I am CEO of Pipeline Shock Studios. ive seen your videos and was wondering if you thought about joining a network? we are not like machinima who claims to be a Multi Channel Network. we on the other hand are a Online Video Network Studio. this is what makes us different then the others.1. no perpetual contracts!2. we always will keep our flat rat

Since the Oculus team have been demoing the 1080p version, I am wondering if they have plans to release these for pre-order?I on behalf of many others have hold-off on pre-ordering the Devkit 1.0 due to the reported screen door effect and that it is extremely less pronounced on the 1080p version. The increased resolution will ofcourse help the development of higher definition games that require you to read text of the User Interface (UI). Anything ranging from RPGs that have a hovering health bar and items of to the side, to first person shooters that have mini-maps hovering.Basically I am saying that for development of great UI I think the 1080p would be a godsend for developers.So... any ideas if they plan on releasing it for pre-order?
