Has anyone been to Washington, DC (USA) or Dulles, VA (USA) and used those flight simulators at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museums?I can't say for sure how close the experience matches to really flying one of these planes 40,000 feet in the air. I've never done that in real life. However, I can say the experience was great! Worth the $8 at least once. The vehicle only uses a 35-40 inch TV but it still felt somewhat real when you're flying upside down and turning. My pilot and I played the F-18 dog fighting simulation and shot down 5 planes.http://airandspace.si.edu/visit/mall/things-to-do/simulators.cfmHere are some YouTube clips:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19clWUMfo6Qhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5CgF47hhxAhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kq5UVoFnarwI'm hoping the Smithsonian Institute purchased a couple dev kits to try their systems with VR HMDs and that they would modify their systems to use the consumer Rift instead of the TVs. I can only imagine that it would

have known devs like Carmack, Gates, Wright, etc. ever made a public statement about their belief in life on other planets?

I ordered my PS4 from Amazon last night at 12:01 am and I just got my email saying it has been shipped and will arrive Saturday. It looks like they sold pretty fast because first I tried a bundle with Battlefield 4 but it was sold out. Then I instantly tried just the PS4 with no bundle and my order went through fine.So does anyone have theirs yet? If so how are you liking it? I like the PS3 but it always seemed a little weak to me. Hopefully the 4 will give a solid 1080p with 60fps. They say it should run 4k video but not 4k games...kind of a bummer!

So, one of my first posts here was “Neusea probably isn't problem,” it wasn’t the most well thought out post and my first responder called me out as someone who did not own an Oculus or someone who was not actually a developer, which both are essentially true at this point in time. The next response claimed I would be very poor at marketing if I thought as customers as “sheeple,” that’s what gave me the idea to write this (and yes, I spelled nausea wrong, that didn’t help my image...). So whilst I just threw the word out there in a post that was not the most well constructed, it made me think about the term and why I used it, and, if by using it the response was correct that the use of the term showed I had zero marketing skills. So, the reason I used that term was because I was scared in some way, somehow, the VR experience would be lessened somehow by devs designing to sell to people I referred to as sheeple. I have reasons for believing so do to past experiences that most of us as in

What if some weirdo appeared on your lawn and offered you a one way time travel journey. You can time travel once. Only once to the past or the future, the choice is yours. But take your time to think about it, as there will be no going back. It's a one way ticket to another time.Where would you go? Would you even go at all?

Today starts the Crowdfunding Campain on Indiegogo.Take a lookhttp://igg.me/at/Refugio3D/x/5244329http://youtu.be/EtIPSg1ig6A

I came across this tumblr which contains a lot of artwork relating to sci-fi, anime, cyberpunk, things like that.(link NSFW, because some images contain nudity)http://rekall.tumblr.com/I immediately thought of you guys when I found this, so I just wanted to share. Feel free to share other places on the internet which collect similar styles of artwork.

This guy built his own contact lens with a coil in it that powers a light emitting diode via induction. I'm glad we have pioneers out there to create this stuff because I certainly have no plans to stick a coil with current pulsing through it on my eyeball. Talking about a serious case of red eye. With individuals taking these extreme measures I have little doubt that the future of VR will arrive very soon.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qHECpEhJdB8&list=TLcr4V5EK5Ffpc3IfkbuzDvxJff0Ue_7CY

I personally wanted Jeffrey Dean Morgan.Michael Keaton returning would have been good too imo.Surprised they went for someone only 2 years older than Bale, given that they've said they wanted an "older" batman, but I think he's a perfect choice for Bruce Wayne. As long as he can turn on the mean for Batman, something we've not seen him do yet so also something to (hopefully) look forward to, then he'll be great.Thoughts ? Who would you have had if not Affleck, given that Bale said no?

Hey guys, I just saw this fan remake of the original Star Trek series. They took Apollo, the real actor from the original "Who Mourns for Adonais?" episode, and he is back on the Enterprise with new people playing the crew members. I guess they are trying to finish the 5 year mission the original show never finished. All I can say is they did an incredible job. The guy playing Kirk also directed it and he did do well that it felt like I watching the 1960's version during most of the episode. His mannerisms were so spot on I actually felt like William Shatner was in the film. The sets, film cuts, and camera angles were very accurately recreated. The guy who plays Apollo was so good I felt like giving him a standing ovation at the end of the movie. Also, the actor who played Scotty is the son of the original actor who was Scotty and he did a terrific job. The only characters I didn't like was the new guy playing Mccoy plus this Sulu seemed really wimpy, the original Sulu rocked.Anyway, t

So I watched this yesterday, quite interesting, yet have in mind its at least 2/3 years oldHeres the second half, couldnt find it full ...its season 2 ep11 of Physics Of The Impossible ;) I found the ODT to be the most interesting aspect, even if it has a very scifi recreationBonus:

I created a simple test animation at 1200FPS. By blending 20frames together we are able to display all the frames on a 60HZ panel. This way we would be able to display a 1200fps realtime rendering on a 60-120HZ panel without requiring a lot of bandwidth (as no cable can go more than 120FPS atm) and with current panel tech.Cube - 30fps http://www.filedropper.com/cube30fpsCube - 60fps http://www.filedropper.com/cube60fpsCube - 1200fps http://www.filedropper.com/cube1200fpsI believe that the blending can be done realtime in GPU as the tech progresses so we would be able to display 1000-2000fps on a 60-120HZ panel and achieve lifelike motion :D It would be cool if this would be moded in old games so clocking 1000fps wouldn't be just for bragging rights :)

So I started playing Kerbal Space Program and realized it'd be a lot more fun with some actual controls instead of a mouse and keyboard. What sort of controllers do people use for flight sims? I really want a throttle for instance. And how much does that sort of project run someone?

Hi guys, sorry this is my first post. Even though the rift was not intended for FPV on any vehicle, it's going there since the goggle is by far the most immersive. I'm actually helping EMR labs not for money but because I want to have a real birds eye(s) view. So to start it off here's the press release and the link to the indiegogo campaign (all of this is copied and pasted here):---------------------------------------------------------------------The Transporter3D is a device that supports the Oculus Rift by converting remotely transmitted video into a virtual reality experience called "telepresence".We have been designing and manufacturing telepresence equipment embraced by the FPV (first person video) community for over 6 years. Starting with the 3D-Cam FPV in 2006, we pioneered the transmission of 3D video for RC aircraft pilots who fly from the ground wearing video glasses.Over the years we pushed the telepresence technology further with force feedback joysticks (ForceFly) and a

While waiting for the delivery of my rift I've been taking a little time to prep my Halloween costume. Seeing as how many Rifters seem to enjoy the horror genre I thought I would show you my work in progress. I don't have a name for him yet. As far as I can tell he's turning into a scarecrow. EDIT: Got the image size figured out!

I know this is off topic, but I see an entire segment of usefulness for this device completely outside of gaming. What I would like to see (and I'll buy in a heartbeat if someone can make this) - is a virtual desktop. One that is massive, you can rotate your head and simply see different areas of the desktop.Imagine having 20 documents open at the same time, it would be like having 30 monitors in front of you.Stock traders could have 20 different charts open in their virtual desktop at the same time.THAT is the real power of it, making the next super-user desktop worker. However to make this work the Oculus would need a camera added, so when you look down at your keyboard and mouse you actually 'pass through' the camera image back of the real world. That way you transition seamlessly from the real world (placing your hands on the correct keys) - to the virtual one (a large massive virtual desktop).Let me know when you guys have one, I will buy it today cnmcdee@gmail.com

I've recently stumbled upon one of those "Dropbox alternatives", this one is called Copy.com. I don't know about you guys, but I currently use Dropbox for a lot of things. Even the downloads of my projects. If I had to pick one thing I don't like about Dropbox it is the space they give you. Even after a lot of referrals I'm still stuck on about 20GB. Copy.com offers a little more.Every new Copy.com account starts with 15GB of free space, and currently (but I keep reading this is a time limited offer) you get 5GB extra for every new referral with no limit on the amount of referrals. So in theory you can get 100GB, 200GB or even more space, assuming you have enough friends. :)And because you are all my friends here, I would like to give you my referral code. :D You will get 20GB of space to start with, and I will get 5GB extra. Sweet deal, no?https://copy.com?r=vLIelY

Definitely recommend this to anyone who has not already seen it.http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1942884/

Hi all,I purchased Lunar Flight, and got myself a -75% coupon for the same game. So, if anyone wants it, feel free to PM me your Steam name, and I'll pass it along gratis, free, ETC. My Steam name is 'yibble'.

Hope this subforum is OK for this! After tons of messing around with my awesome Oculus devkit, I am in a position where I can't dedicate as much time to it as I wanted. As such, I have a great little Oculus development package that I hope to find a new home for, with someone who can get much better use out of it that I can at the moment! It consists of:– Full Oculus devkit, first version (1280x720), full package (headset, case, lenses, everything it shipped with)– MSI GT60 Windows 8 laptop, 15.6" LCD, Intel i7 @ 2.4GHz, NVIDIA GTX770M, 8GB RAM, 1TB HD(http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CU9GKZ8)The MSI is a gaming laptop that runs everything I throw at it with aplomb – from the Tuscany demo to Dishonored via Perception drivers. It's a great machine that doesn't break a sweat.Happy to ship anywhere in the US; I'm in New York City if you'd like to pick up though. It would be great to get $1100 for the whole shebang, however I'm happy to entertain other offers. Please get in

I'm a huge horror fan, and every year I set out to marathon all of my favorite horror movies. I used to watch the network marathons when I was a kid, but they've gotten really bad about always playing the same five movies over and over. That's why I now do my own month-long programming. On today's menu, order of appearances:Frankenstein (1931)Young FrankensteinRe-animatorFrankenweenie (1984)The Fly (1986)The Island of Dr. Moreau (1977)Human Centipede (ewww)Guess what the theme for today is? That should carry me over until tomorrow.
