Hey Everyone,

The Public Test Channel (PTC) for Quest v79 started to roll out today for Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S.

If you're seeing an issue or bug after updating to PTC v79:

1) For issues: Go to our Get Help board and search for any existing thread on the issue, if you don't find one, make a new thread. Please add the tag "PTC v79" to the thread and in the title. This way everyone can look for just PTC v79 issues too.

2) For bugs: If you come across a bug, please post each one you spot in its own thread, to keep track of individual issues separately. Please make sure to also send in bug reports along with posting on the forums if you notice anything going wrong.

Share your impressions in the comments below and let us know if you see any issues.

We know it's tough when you run into a problem on a PTC build and want to thank you all again for testing out PTC and sharing your feedback! This feedback is extremely helpful to our engineering teams. We appreciate your interest and persistence in testing out the core functionality of software as we develop!

I just recieved a very small update for PTC v79 and i did not need to restart it was that small.

Now i cant select the 'unknown apps' anymore, the whole category is gone. ADB is on i can see the apps are still in the built in memory, but i cant select or see it anymore.

Am i the only one? Is this a bug or did Meta stop support for unknown sources?

Cheers

Knurft For those having issues with unknown apps disappearing after the update, just turn the headset off and on again — that fixed it for me. I also saw other people on YouTube who solved it the same way.

I tried that multiple times, but it's not helping.

is there a chance of achievements coming back in the near future? I would love to go back to using the goggles, but I was really put off by my friends by having all my progress erased

For the last week, my Quest 3 was rendered completely unusable with my PC because of the PTC and V79. After the update, my cable that I have been using for many months began rapidly connecting and disconnecting, making it impossible for me to use link via cable.

I saw the potential solution in here of enabling developer mode, but this didn't work for me as my headset was already in developer mode. I was forced to wait for a patch.

That patch came today and it works again. So, thank you, Meta, for fixing your mess of an update. I am sure if I went through support channels, they would have told me it was my cable that was the issue. Sure enough, it was not. I have never seen a company with such advanced technology continue to break the simplest of processes/uses for their products. My PCVR setup was rendered useless for a week.

This was the final straw for me with the PTC, as all it does is add useless features that will break your headset temporarily over and over. I strongly recommend anyone who doesn't want to risk the functionality of their headsets to do the same. I would love to be able to test ACTUAL new features without the risk of losing use of the headset completely. This should be the final stage before it's pushed to the public, not a collection of guinea pigs who do all of Meta's testing for them. It's unacceptable from a company of this size.

Hey Meta, it's all nice and good with updates and so on, but can we now finally get a saturation slider?

There must be some color purist working for you who is apparently preventing this, or who is **bleep**ting his pants in fear that people will adjust it in a way that causes clipping. Simultaneously, you have chaos with the displays you use; sometimes they have an extended color space (Quest 1, Quest Pro) and sometimes they are on Rec. 709.

On the Quest 3, a lot of things look too washed out and I ask myself why that is, even in the 709 color space. It doesn't matter if the colors clip a little bit, if the user agrees to it. An adjustable saturation function has been missing for so many years... there must be a way.

Even Virtual Desktop offers to display colors more saturated; I would bet that most people have that option ticked.

benevolence13 Okay, this is actually a joke. I made the above post about my link cable starting to work again, and it's since stopped, again. I was able to get into SteamVR one time before it went back to doing the same thing it did before. The weird thing is it will now appear to be connected at all times (no constant connect/disconnect noise), but when I try to enter link it will just give me a "PC disconnected" message.

Meta's software updates are embarrassing. My setup is now unusable once again.

I feel your frustration, doesn't matter what version of USB used, its still the same for me.. And developer mode MTP isn't something alone I needed. Same as you it worked once here and then stopped.  Once this issue is fixed I'm coming off the PTC as its more trouble than its worth with so many things wrong with it such as Release notes so that we could see what might be affected in the actual release, plus whole mountain of other issues. But hey thats Meta's problem to solve.

my rant isn't over until the issue's fixed. Top priority should be USB and charging fix.
