Hey Everyone,

The Public Test Channel (PTC) for Quest v79 started to roll out today for Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro, Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S.

If you're seeing an issue or bug after updating to PTC v79:

1) For issues: Go to our Get Help board and search for any existing thread on the issue, if you don't find one, make a new thread. Please add the tag "PTC v79" to the thread and in the title. This way everyone can look for just PTC v79 issues too.

2) For bugs: If you come across a bug, please post each one you spot in its own thread, to keep track of individual issues separately. Please make sure to also send in bug reports along with posting on the forums if you notice anything going wrong.

Share your impressions in the comments below and let us know if you see any issues.

We know it's tough when you run into a problem on a PTC build and want to thank you all again for testing out PTC and sharing your feedback! This feedback is extremely helpful to our engineering teams. We appreciate your interest and persistence in testing out the core functionality of software as we develop!

Charging with the BoboVR S3 Pro battery strap is now impossible with this update. I get the "charging at a slower rate" message every time I try to charge the headset battery with it.

A few minutes in, the headset will refuse to charge and drain itself much faster than before. Even the charging indicators on both the headset and the strap turn off when this happens.

The only workaround is to restart the headset or let the headset battery die.

I've been tolerant of all PTC updates and their flaws, even the Navigator which everyone apparently hates. My overall user experience didn't change for the worse even when new features came half-baked.
But now? This battery drain issue rendered my BoboVR strap useless--Meta has done something unforgivable.

hmmm,

i got the option to update to v79 on quest pro, i refused.

several days later the option to update v79 got replaced by a newer build for v78 on quest pro....

maybe meta has withdrawn v79 for quest pro (and if sparkles are back this is probobly a good thing ... )

I'm not on PTC, but I'm on public release of v79 and it says it's on v79.1029, but it keeps saying it has an update for v79.1028 and it keeps redownloading. Tried hard reboot, that didn't work, then did a Factory Reset on my Quest 3 for the 4th time overall and it's still there

And what make it worse is the none existant and official reply, it's been a week so what ever they are not doing is definitEly working... All pun's and sarcasm intended.

I have two quest 3's. My personal unit is on PTC and updated V79.1028. Ever since the Quest Pro Controllers are stuck at (update starting) with no progress or indication of actually starting. I reset controllers using various methods, re-paired them, tried to see if the firmware would roll back by un-enrolling and doing a factory reset. For that the UI reverted but the firmware version remained the same, went through the same re-pair, reset, both in app and on the quest 3 itself with no changes. Rejoined PTC and the UI reverted back but since the firmware version of the headset didn't change, no firmware reflash from that. Tried connecting to my PC and using the web firmware update which simply said I had the latest version.

I paired the quest pro controllers to the Quest 3 with V78. They work fine there. Trying to re-pair them to the V79 firmware headset and the Meta Quest app is still at the Pair Left Controller Your left controller's firmware is being updated. Please wait a few minutes... screen after 45 minutes and the headset itself is still at update starting.

update: Standard Meta Quest 3 Controllers paired and updated within seconds and working fine with V79.1028. Quest pro controllers working fine on a V78 firmware. Please shoot a message or reply if you come across a method that pairs the pro controllers with V79.1028 if a new update hasn't come out. You'll have my praise many wishes for great luck upon you.

I'm going to swap the pairing of normal and pro controllers between my headsets (stock quest 3 controllers on the V78 firmware headset) until firmware fixes go out and then quit participating in the PTC. The PTC previously had controller firmware updates that often helped the pro controllers, but it isn't worth the disruption if I can not work around the bugs and fixes takes weeks instead of days.

This happens when I have the glasses connected and the MSI BIOS menu is open on my computer screen, and then Meta asks me for the log in Windows to try to solve it, as if the problem were a bad installation (sometimes I think they treat me like an idiot).

They should fix V79, that's what they have to do.

I exited PTC and then restarted the device, causing the navigator to revert back to its old style. Is this a feasible way to deal with those messy bugs?
