Quest 3 stuck in Battery Saver Mode

So I toggled the battery saver mode 3 days ago and ofc it lowered resolution. I wanted to test the feature. So I toggled it on, saw the change, and then toggled it off. When I turned it off, the resolution stayed the same, the fovetated size stayed the same. Everything was the same as if I was still on battery saver mode (with full charge on the headset).

I ignored this issue until today as I cannot deal with it anymore. I restarted the device, resolution is still low, text is pixelated, FOV is terrible, everything warped. The headset thinks I'm in battery saver mode still. Tried toggling it on and off and there is literally no change when turning it on, and of course no change when going back to off.

Please help.

I'm on v60

So…this thread is going on from october of last year till now, i wonder if there will be any fixes to this, this is just..bad experience

I think it's now accepted that passthrough is just really bad. If you test battery saver mode while in a game or anything other than passthrough you will see a difference when you toggle battery saver on or off. I've moved on from using passthrough. They will probably have it looking good in next headset. I'll probably get that one also.

I wouldn’t want to buy another Meta headset with flaky software again, it just doesn’t make any sense. It’s not just flaky software, it can be fixed, it’s the way how are they fixing it. It’s just too long and too careless, i barely used my headset from December last year, because it’s just to blurry and has terrible image quality, not just passthrough, and i they confirmed it’s a software bug, the headset by itself is working fine. Overall, i don’t want to buy a product and then put in on the shelf for half a year, to wait while they’ll fix a **bleep** bug.

I contacted support about this issue and all they told me was "do a hard reset". Also v63 doesnt fix this problem yet.

Hard reset won't fix it. I did that about 20 times now, and I have two quests 3s from two different stores in two different cities and they both are the same. If you have tons of lights and lots of open windows in your house, yes, it will look better but it's a better grainy, but still grainy. It is what it is at this point. here is a test you can do.

While in passthrough turn the battery saver setting on and off with no cable hooked up to the unit. You will notice the only difference is brightness of the screen. You can go back to main settings and turn the brightness back up that was put to the middle setting and it will look the same. Same with the cable plugged it, which is strange that the battery saving is even an option, but again it only turns down the brightness which you can turn back up even in battery saving mode. Get used to the grainy passthrough or use the virtual environments.

Im quest 3 owner.

JUST A REMINDER WERE 4 MONTHS IN, NO SOLUTIONS AND META HAS FALSELY FLAGGED THE RESOLVED. THEIR RESOLUTION - TAKE IT OFFLINE WITH SUPPORT. ONLY THING SUPPORT EVER SAYS IS WE'RE WORKING ON IT.

NO.

THEY.

ARE.

NOT.

THATS WHY THERE IS NO UPDATE OR PUBLIC ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Well that looks like its time to return my headset. Pretty disapointed by this.

Sorry but I don't have this Power Savings problem with my Q3.  Mainly because I've never enabled it, lol!

This may have already been covered but I really don't have time to read all 11 pages of posts.  However, I have noticed that when I enable 120Hz settings/display option I do see a bit of visual degradation in some apps and the meta browser browser.  I curently leave 120Hz disabled.  So, just an idea, but maybe make sure you are not enabling 120Hz and see if this helps.  It may be somthing that is compounding the power savings option.  Who knows?  In any case I hope this issue gets resolved soon.  Good luck mates and cheers.

Never considered compounding of multiple issues. For me it was just suddenly there one day, and very noticable. Will check that out tomorrow when my eyes are not so tired. If that helps I will report back.

TBH I'm not sure these are related.  Just a wild guess on my part.  Cheers.

Just installed v64. Meta claims that they increase passthrough quality. But we are still stucked in battery saver mode. I noticed some improvements: passthrough now more sharpen (still bad, but better), but there is much more motion blurness (when you move your head, or when some objects move inside view).

Also I noticed strange behaviour: There was two updates today (minor v63 and v64). After each update there is a button in settings "restart to apply", when I clicked it the passthrough quality for one second became clear like its fixed. Then headset restarts and all looks crapppy again. So this brief moment of clearness can be our guiding star to fix. I think that means that headset can control batterysaver mode, but just dont want to...

AliceinVRworld this issue still not resolved, please check the status.

So the only fix for this ignored bug is to return the device? I can only workaround it with QGO,  exposing my privacy.

Exposing your privacy?

I'm totally with you when it comes to these guys not bothering to fix the broken stuff on this device. It's crazy how little they are doing on this and several other device breaking issues... But, lol come on.

There is a fix. There is an "optimizer" app that works on Quest units. It allows you to manually turn resolution back up. Not sure if I'm allowed to talk about it here as it's a third party app.

Thats not a fix its a workaround.

Quest Games Optimizer, Ill talk about anything here. These jokers apparently dont read this forum anyway, or if they do they certainly dont do anything about the issues people have.

It's a good workaround. It brings graphic levels up to higher than stock values.

Tried every possible connection for PCVR, every time image is looking compressed and blurry, also dimmed.

My gpu doesn’t seem to be loaded to full, which it should be(that indicates that resolution is lowered), but I cranked up resolution in quest link/virtual desktop/steam vr and gpu is still not fully loaded and everything looks blurred and low res.

For me basically everything is in low resolution right now and dimmed, PCVR and home screen.

i won’t mention pass through, because i’m rarely using it, although it’s bad, it isn’t related to this topic

That's annoying

Even virtual desktop is like that?

I find link and airlink is total garbage with or without this bug. It's just nowhere near as good as virtual desktop.

Participant

Yes, virtual desktop is slightly better, because you can configure it more to crank up resolution and brightness, but even with that in the end resolution looks low and brightness is also dimmed.

With oculus link for example, i’ve raised resolution to 170% and it still didn’t make any difference and gpu wasn’t fully loaded, so with all of that, it’s obvious that device resolution is lowered.

it really sucks, because you cannot configure resolution of the device, you can do nothing, even pcvr is bad and this issue got ignored by meta for months

It would be nice if Meta would take control of this thread and start providing more specifics, rather than people speculating on what is going on? It sounds like v64 is supposed to address passthrough image quality. But honestly, it is odd that the OS doesn't just give us an option to specify the resolution we prefer directly in settings, and leave it up to the end user to decide what resolution they'd like things to be in. Obviously with there being either a sacrifice in quality or battery life based on whichever choice we make.
