Hey everyone! The engineering team has been reading feedback and doing some testing on this topic. We've found that the most common cause of any passthrough noise or unexpected quality is due to the amount of lighting in the room. To get the best experience with passthrough, check out our article here.

The team is still interested in everyone's feedback and will continue to analyze passthrough performance.

Same here, bad passtrough even with bright daylight. Bought the 512gb version but i think i'll send back to amazon because it's ridiculous that in a sunny day (10am) with a lot of windows the quest can't see the QR code from my phone... what a shame. i was very hyped by the reviews.

Can anyone explain why the passthrough looks so bad through the lenses but so much better when recorded? I don't understand how, if the quality is there in the source, we don't see it with our eyeballs!

Absolutely love this thing but yeah, the passthrough is very underwhelming and detracts from how awesome MR could be. 🤞 for an update. that can improve it

I experience a sort of shimmering or flickering effect in passthrough when moving my head around. and I believe it is strongly related to the so called dirty screen effect which is like kind of fine maze over the image in VR. In passthrough it causes the flickering when I move my head a little faster. This effect I could make a movie where it's visible. In this regard the pro is still better as I have none of these effects despite the lower quality passthrough because no mura nor flickering in the same light conditions.

Brand new quest 3, and out of the box it has the same passthrough as if it had been in battery saver mode. Like what people are reporting. Looked it up and others also have the same bad passthrough video resolution as if they have started battery saver mode, but, battery saver mode was never selected. I know to have limited expectations on passthrough quality, but, at the same time, I have seen what good passthrough looks like. In videos and in person. People showcase good and bad passthrough from more than one headset side by side. In quite a few videos on the internet. I have also seen the difference in person, on a friends headset. My girlfriend bought me this as an early birthday gift, and insisted on getting me the 512 gb model. I have loved my quest 2 for many years, but am thinking of getting away from the quest brand of headsets. Removing the tracking ring has made two of my gunstocks useless. Not happy about that, as many people are not. Makes gun stock manufacturing harder and tracking while using one harder. Plus inconsistency in quality control of this product, not getting a good one at the nearly 700 dollar price tag before warranty, makes me nervous about the future of this product. I like the resolution increase, and the concept of mixed reality. Wanted to use it to get work done and use it as a mobile desktop while still being able to use a tablet or laptop. But without half decent passthrough that seems less viable now. The idea that meta has not directly acknowledged this, and stated that they are working on a fix to be released soon, makes me nervous. They are a billion dollar company and not being transparent about this is kind of unacceptable. So sadly, unless this is fixed soon, or there is a public statement made about a fix incoming, then I will be returning this, and probably going with a different brand of vr headset. I have a nice computer for pcvr, so I have options. I am a YouTube content creator, and I know several others with large followings. It would be a shame if this was not fixed before we all dropped negative reviews of this product that may affect sales. I normally want to do what I can to promote meta and the quest models. But I can’t be dishonest about my experiences. Meta needs to at least acknowledge this, now. Not later. Because at this point people are not even sure if they are working on a fix. Passthrough and mixed reality are some major selling points for the high price tag. For many people. Below is a video I found on YouTube. One of many that showcases this issue. Please meta. Fix this issue, or at least own up to and admit it, and that you are trying to fix it. If mine was stuck in battery saver mode for this aspect of thr headset, how do I even know I am getting the full performance in standalone, games, or on pc vr, and in using it for work?  I did attempt the factory reset that has fixed this issue for others. But after doing 20 in a row, there was no change. It was not improved to the quality of my friends same headset, and the videos of footage taken through the lens in more than one YouTube video. Here is one of those videos I found. https://youtu.be/76dVSkhpxbo?si=_sEaKOIYxfH46Dri

Always best to post your own screenshots and videos especially if you're a YT content creator. That way we can see the variations and better judge what's going on with individual headsets.

I'm not a creator but I posted through-the-lens shots and screen-grabs from both my Pro and Quest 3 quite early on in this thread.

I have seen it first hand. But in all honesty I have not had the time to make a video myself. I already packaged up the one to send back. But, there are videos on the internet showcasing the same exact issue. Two compared, one way worse. https://youtu.be/76dVSkhpxbo?si=MHewGEy3vCe8lg_J

I believe this is the same issue with battery saver listed here.  Hoping meta can fix it.

after a lot of quest 3 commercial and hype, i bhought the quest 3 yesterday and got heavy dissapointed at the mixxed reality even though i have 10 led lamps in my room.

the product is not like it was advertised, passthrough on the quest 3 does NOT give the the mixxed reality experience that was advertised.
its a good vr headset, high tech and easy roomscale setup.
it is a shame that the cameras bring down the AR experience i was looking forward to.

Hu, received my Quest 3 last Monday. Very disappointed with mixed VR quality.

I tried several lights, I tried to factory reset...

Always blurry and full of video noise.

Please fix that cause it seems some devices are ok and other not.

Yours looks great compared to mine, my laptop would look like an amoeba. Waiting for a response from Meta support, if they say that it is normal it's going back. My Gear VR from 8 years ago had better image quality.

Same problem from the start. Bought quest 3 last week. From looking at forums i see that this is lasting issue. I think i will return my unit and just got something from other manufacturer. What a entry to VR world!!!

So I have always been able to make out my phone text, but the room looks grainy and low quality. I've heard loads of people say it needs good light, but I always thought I had decent lighting in the room where it gets most use.

I took it to my office the other day, where I have a load of bright plant lights running, and it was SO much better. Tons. Not as good as a recording, but not far off. Unfortunately that doesn't help me at home!

Speaking of which, does anyone know how the recording looks so good but in the headset it's so crappy? It's using the same camera to see the world, right? Makes no sense to me, unless it really is that it's somehow stuck in a low-quality power-saving mode (which seems like it should be easy to fix with an update). ðŸ¤·.
