Ok .. "simple question / problem" ..NOT a laptop fan .. have to go "around" to demonstrate some OR stuff, was thinking at some "compact PCs" that look a bit like a Mac Mini or such ..What are the best options, what would you do/recommend ?Something portable yet with "considerable graphic power".Thanks in advance for any suggestion :) Ah .. possibly NOT a Mac something, we are talking Windows here.

Hey Forum,Now that I have done some research and seen what VR is capable of and where the medium is going.... I really *really* want to make a VR game now. And the initial idea that I am brainstorming is titled "Maiden Voyage" or just "Titanic"Imagine if you will, being let loose to explore the titanic minutes before it hits the iceberg on its maiden voyage....Elements of Gameplay:Exploration: just building and exploring the titanic alone in VR would be an amazing experience in and of itself.Interactivity: imagine all of the interactive elements you could design into this Job/Social Sim: optional (will explain in further detail below)Survival: the core goal (will explain further)The top two elements are pretty self explanatory....Job/Social Sim:you will be interacting with the virtual experience from the perspective of a character . each character will have a whole plethora of unique exclusive scenarios. you will board the titanic in a stationary like fashion (think asunder earthbond)

Just saw this go up recently. It is designed for use in motion graphics / cinema, but from listening to the samples, there are a few hundred areas in which I could definitely use in game design as well.https://www.videocopilot.net/products/motionpulse/A couple other ones (which I have and use):Designer Sound Effects: https://www.videocopilot.net/products/dsfx/Pro Scores: https://www.videocopilot.net/products/proscores/Figured there might be some interest to the audiophiles here :)

While this may not have anything to do with VR (hence my posting it in the off topic area), it does have something to do with technology.http://www.rockethub.com/42228Basically, the probe got launched, then did a bunch of science for NASA. Then... someone threw out all of the equipment for communicating with it. Now, it's finally coming back into earth's sphere of influence. It's going to get damn close to the moon. These guys want to turn it back on and have it burn to be caught in orbit. They're around 25 or 26 thousand away from their funding goal, with 10 days to go, last I checked.I figured that there might be a few around here that would be able to help them out a bit more than I could. No money, but I can at least spread word about 'em, I figure. It would be a pity for this bit of space history to zip away from us.

Hi People and fellow RiftersI got into a discussion on another forum a little while back, I'm curious to know what peoples views are on VR in general being an alternative escapism instead of drugs? On the other forum I won't mention which one, but when I aired my views on this matter there was at first a really positive vibe! Which got highly up-voted then for some reason really down-voted? The thing is I honeslty believe that VR could actually offer the escapism a lot of people seek where in other positions they could potentially turn to drugs for the escapism that they're looking for! I think VR is powerful enough to offer this other medium, it's something that maybe just a screen can't offer (full immersion) personally I don't take drugs but I've had a colourful past! And I've definitely lived! So I hope that answers members curiosities? Would just like to know if people share the same view as in VR is as powerful as I believe it is going to be? I'm in no way saying it could cure t

Hey forum,I am extremely interested in capturing and recreating the essence of large scale light shows in VR using computer graphics on a much smaller scale. Initial focus would be to gradually increase the complexity of the light show itself more so then the scale. can any game engine handle this many lights, and this many virtual screens, all working together with the audio of the performance in real time? doesn't have to be "live" it can be entirely pre-fabricated and just presented live....who is with me on this?

They have dug up an evil place. We're all doomed. Doomed!http://www.cnet.com/news/found-ataris-e-t-games-dug-up-from-new-mexico-landfill/Now, who is going to be the guy to adapt it to VR. We currently have a nice hole in the ground in NM for you. :) lol

Hey guys, writing an ethics paper for college on the OR. Looking for any interesting cases anyone has come across. I may have been slightly ambitious in picking this topic because it's not out yet I can't find any cases to study. I'm stuck just hypothesizing about what could happen. I have found a few things like sex dolls/waifu/sims, military use (nothing specific though), physical therapy, emotional therapy, controlling space robots, seeing inside human body virtually.Just so everyone knows, my goal is not to put a bad spin on the OR, in fact I'm putting a great spin on it. Just need real world happenings to analyze and yet to find much because, yet again, it's not out yet. :D Any help would be appreciated, Josh

Hey everyone!I'll be streaming a few VR games Sunday(tomorrow) at around 8pm EST for a few hours. I usually stream every Wednesday at 9pm EST. Tomorrow I'll be playing Darknet(demo), Technolust(demo), War Thunder, and Bioshock. I also upload a highlight from each game onto my youtube. Feel free to join me tomorrow!http://www.twitch.tv/kdd9000http://www.youtube.com/user/kdd9000

So i read a post the other day about doubling a screens resolution just by offsetting two displays and putting them ontop of each other, but i was thinking it sounded like a poor idea... however, since the main issue right now is latency and getting frame rates up, what about having 0 offset, using low persistance and alternating the two screens frames... effectively doubling the refresh rate? could then have two 60hz displays, when one is off, the other is on, effectively 120hz... so then if you get up to 90hz displays, effectively 180hz? wouldn't that be better?mind you the video card would have to render frames pretty evenly between the two displays....

Hello there,I am currently thinking about which type of graphics card I am going to buy in a few months (maybe in october). If I had to choose right now, I would pick a nvidia GeForce GTX 780 because of the reliability. It seems that the Radeon R9 290 has some issues with temperature and is quite loud. But then there is Mantle, the new API from AMD. I didn't read much about it, but I heard some people say that it would be nice with Battlefield 4 and brings a lot more frames per second. I am not really sure, if I can believe this, because today I read an article in a german computermagazine called CT (like in Computer Technology), which is one of the few respected magazines with good reputation, in which they stated that most of the time Mantle doesn't bring you any benefit. Unless you have a poor CPU and 3D-scenes that rely on CPU-power. And then there is this table from another article of the same issue of CT:With the Radeon R9 290X there is just a minimal gain of one single frame...W

Here's a funny photo from LIFE magazine:The TV glasses that never caught on.

Hey Forum, quick question:has there ever been a game or demo or hack since the invention of dual analog sticks that leverages the analog sticks to directly control leg movement of the virtual character you are playing as in some fashion? by direct leg manipulation i mean;-tilt left stick forward to take a step forward with the left leg-tilt right joystick forward shortly after releasing left joystick to take a step forward with the right leg -continue to alternate the sticks one after another to continue to move forward-the frequency of how you alternate the sticks determines your locomotion speed.*well it wont be exactly 1:1; more like a little nudge here and a little nudge there but you get the idea.i have not been able to find any game that has ever tried it. so it might be a very bad idea...

Hope this isn't off topic, but I was wondering what all you smart computer types thought about this?http://www.pcworld.com/article/2147600/fcc-will-seek-input-on-latest-net-neutrality-proposal.htmlMike

My imagination is not limited by copyright issues :P *First Person Perspective/Combat Focused Gameplay*Instead of spelling out the whole idea (back story and all) I am just going to focus in on what interests me most about this ideabehold the droideka what interests me the most is the "ball" form. you could map locomotion in ball form entirely to positional tracking data alone.for instance-lean forward to roll forward-lean backwards to roll backwards/decelerate -lean side to side to steer ball when its in motion-when you are not in motion you can rotate ball by turning your head?? = would need to be tested...FYI: perspective inside the ball would be like that of a seated observer balanced and stabilized like a gyro!secondly when droideka is in walking form this would be more like "tank mode" forced freelook. locomotion is mapped entirely to input device only. so therefore where you look is where you aim. but locomotion in walking form is very slow and cumbersome. and of course you coul

Hey Forum,I am very interested in getting into VR game development :) Wondering if there are any VR enthusiasts, developers, graphic artists, sound engineers, amateur film makers et all who live near Florida Tech?I would very much like to start a team. Although my current skill set is quite limited (as is my budget). But hey you got to start somewhere right? I dont even know what to name this team yet :P Personally I would like to start with something small and practical. We could make Janus rooms and hubs until we could afford to get going on Unity Pro Once we get going on Unity Pro we can get our feet wet by creating demos and arcade games intended to be virtual games within Technolust. I am sure if we presented Anticleric with a compelling demo, he would definitely consider adding it into Technolust when he gets around to building the arcade venue. Honestly at this point I would rather contribute to Janus & Tecnolust rather then make some stand alone product from scratch....Not

you are challenged by an anonymous hacker to enter a "shadow box" as an initiation rite.backstory;during the early days of direct neural interfacing (DNI) there was a resounding excitement and enthusiasm that this technology was a huge step towards a bright future of limitless possibilities. reports detailing successful levels of DNI circled the globe. many felt that DNI was "the greatest achievement of humanity since the invention of the internet and computing itself." imagine being able to consciously control computers. direct brain to computer networking. a few years later a small team of crazy game developers discovered a way to hack the DNI network to allow a DNI user to project their consciousness into virtual worlds, which later came to be know as "jacking in"DNI become so ubiquitous that eventually a decision was made to make DNI enhancement mandatory. this decision caused a huge wave of controversy though. in the wake of this controversy a small group of anonymous hackers, con

Hey Forum,Are there any really good VR blogs out there yet? like a techcrunch for all thing VR related? how about one with a catchy domain name? perhaps backed by some media company so they can afford to hire a team of VR enthusiasts/tech journalists/bloggers/ytvideo reviewers to keep up with all the amazing things developers are creating?one that has post with;-VR game reviews; rich blog format with inline yt review video posts -HMD news and reviews (Oculus Rift, Glyph, Morpheus)-input device reviews and news-echo popular generic VR related news (properly sourced and referenced) -in depth coverage at developer conferences-preferably associated with a rich forum such as this one-with a whole plethora of social media entities associated with it (twitter, facebook, yt channel)all backed by a team of graphic designers (to make the site look gorgeous), and a team of web developers (to make the site look gorgeous on any screen)...if there isnt who wants to help me build one? im extremely in

Hey forum,I am still conceptualizing what "shadow box" looks like but by happen chance I just discovered: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/495381328/idna-spatial-storytellingIm thinking these interactive comics could be a treasure trove of "worlds within worlds" and will be shifting my focus to conceptualizing how this would work in the technolust world :)to jack into an interactive comic book;-load up technolust-find a comic stand or store-acquire the comic book you want to experience -find a hologram projector (usually near the stand or in a comic book store and one in your house)-set the book on the hologram projector -hologram projector will load and project an image of the cover-look at the comic book cover and confirm to jack in -watch a nifty looking jack in animation-be immersed in a full screen 360 interactive cyber punk themed comic book that works similar to IDNA

Hi People I'm currently doing some research on positional tracking. I didn't know if there were any people on the forum who really have extensive knowledge on the matter? What it is I'm actually looking for is a positional tracking package that can work in vast open spaces on a mobile devise to allow accuracy of a VR/AR image it's one area of my project I'm working on that isn't essentially needed but would be a great added bonus to be able to include, any info would be greatly appreciatedThank you
