Link v83 - no PCVR sound in Link through Oculus Virtual Audio Device

Yesterday, I received the v83.1083 universal interface update (non PCVR) on my Quest 3 and also the v83.0.0.269.349 Meta Quest Link app update. I also updated the Oculus drivers, as requested by the app. I rebooted my PC and headset.

After the update, I played Elite Dangerous via AirLink all day with no problem. Then I put my PC and headset to sleep and went to bed. Today, when I start the Link dashboard, I hear the "swoosh" start-up sound, but there is no background "void" sound, and no menu sounds. I can't hear any PCVR games in my headset. If I switch the output device to be my Jabra earphones, I can hear the Link dash menu sounds and PCVR games correctly. So, it seems that the Oculus Virtual Audio Device or the Audio Processing Object is misbehaving, even though Windows Device Manager shows that "the device is working properly".

I double-checked that I have the correct audio input and output devices set in Windows and in the Meta Quest Link app, as well as the correct settings for hearing the computer and game audio.

I tried powering off my PC and headset and restarting. I also tried reinstalling the updated Oculus drivers in "C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-drivers" and restarting the PC, but AirLink still has no sound output to the Quest 3 (Oculus Virtual Audio Device) 😒😒😒. Switching the sound output device to my Jabra earphones or Desktop Speakers does give me sound through those devices.

Another user also reported this bug yesterday, so it might be an emerging bug.

I guess the temporary solution is to wear a pair of headphones connected to the PC and wait and see if Meta fix this problem in the next Meta Quest Link update.

  • SOLUTION:

I went into Windows->Installed Apps, and selected 'Oculus', then clicked the (...) and selected Modify. In the installer that opened, I selected "Repair". It re-installed Link (v81), then the Link app downloaded and installed an update (v83.0.0.269.349). After that, the app asked me to install a driver update and reboot the PC. After that, I connected my Quest 3 to the Link dashboard and the sound is now working again πŸ˜ƒ.

This is not working for me...

I've repaired the app countless times, gone through the audio drivers and double checked all configurations, even factory reset my quest 3. Nothing seems to be working. At this point, I don't think this can be fixed by me, and I'm waiting impatiently for a patch.

Yea, same issue here, but thanks for your tip on the solution, did the repair as you mentioned and it downgraded the pc app back to Oculus Link and with that it's working, so will stay with that for now, until someone confirms it's working with the new Horizon Link app...

It just sucks that Meta is so bad with their updates, there is some kind of issue like this after every other update πŸ‘Ž

Oculus Link, Meta Quest Link and Horizon Quest Link are the same app. I've just woken my computer this morning and opened the Link Dash, and the PCVR audio is still working, so it looks like the fix is holding up πŸ˜€. I've had my Q3 for about 6 months and this is the first major issue that I've had with Link so far.

Another tip: if you have your headset set to use AirLink, but when you go to launch the Link Dash from the headset, it shows "computer not found" which prevents you from clicking the Launch button, but you know your computer is all set up correctly, just toggle the "Use Air Link (WiFi)" off and on, and the Launch button will instantly start working again πŸ™‚. This saves me from having to restart the OVRService or reboot the headset to make the PC and headset reconnect.

Any solution for anyone who doesn’t have the v81 to downgrade back to?

You don't need v81 quest sw, its working for me with v83 in the Quest headset, you just need the old pc app called Meta Quest Link, instead of the new one called Meta Horizon Link, i got that by doing the "repair" as mentioned above, but if you are not able to do that, you might be able to found installer somewhere online

Ahh, I found an earlier version but whenever I repair the app it says, β€œWindows cannot find β€˜C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-client\OculusClient.exe” Pretty sure that’s a whole thing in and of itself.

  • I have exactly the same problem, but your solution didn't work for me. I see in other forums that people are in the same situation.

Today, November 4th, when I turned on my computer, the Meta app asked me to restart due to an update.  the quest3 also updated, and now they're working correctly again. (I'm still on the beta channel)
