(Resolved) Known Issue - V62/63 USB-C Debris/Water Warning

v62 has a big problem with USB port sensor (found the very same issue on my Q3 and the one of my wife)... when used with an extension cable (even if it is a quality cable) from time to time star showing the debris-water warning message. Of course there is no debris or water, just a nasty software false alarm.

Known Issue

Status: Fix rolling out in V64 - Public Release

Hey everyone! Back with another update. I got word from the team that we should start seeing improvements in the upcoming updates, however, they want to stray from promising any specific timeline for the fix just yet. I know everyone is still prepped for jumping back into their pop-up free VR experience, but this is the extent of information available to me at the moment. Hopefully I can find out and share more with you all soon! Thanks for remaining patient while the team works towards improvements!

Update (3/27/2024):

Hey everyone! After waiting patiently from the team for any updates I was able to share with you all, I just got confirmation that we should see a fix in the upcoming V64 build. I've tried to get word about a potential release for V64 & V64's PTC, but I haven't heard anything about it just yet. Be sure to keep an eye on the Announcements board, as that's the place we'll be posting about the PTC and Official releases.

If you continue to experience the error on a V64 build, please let me know! I'd also appreciate if you included your V64 software version number.

  • You can check in Quick Settings > Settings > Software Update under the Current Version Details section. The formatting should be 64.#.#.###.###.#########.

Update (4/5/2024):

Hey again! I'm glad to see that a lot of you are no longer having issues after the rollout of PTC's 64.0.0.419.370.583580230. After bringing more reports to our team, I was notified that the official fix hasn't shipped just yet, but it's a really good sign that improvements are being shown in the PTC builds! The official fix should be rolling out in the public release of the V64 build.

Thank you again for your patience, and please be on the lookout on our Blog or the Announcements board for when the public build is officially announced. Of course, I'll be notifying you all here as well once I find out more information!

Another update to my previous post.  My link cable is working with the replacement headset.  It was recognized immediately after I plugged it in.

Ok I turned updates back on. Let it update to v64. But now the boundary is broken. I can create a boundary but it doesn't warn me when I get close to objects which makes it completely unusable for gaming. I have created and deleted a boundary five times. Everytime it successfully completes but no outline for when I get close to my computer, cabinets or table. Incompetence at its finest.

edit: Why is the topic heading now Resolved? Its not resolved at all. What is with meta and their idiocy?

Just wanted to chime in too and say the issue is still there. I held off on updating until I seen people saying they are seeing a fix. So I ended up updating from v62 to v64. And to my not surprised, it's still there.

Way to do a minimal effort there Meta. What a F***ING joke.

v65 still has a big problem with USB port sensor, when used with an extension cable (even if it is a quality cable) starts showing the debris-water warning message. Of course there is no debris or water, just a nasty software false alarm.

Continuation of UNRESOLVED bug for many.

Okay... for those with issues with the moisture/debris... I have the new v65 OS and am using the following USB power cord/s and brick and thus far, have no issues with the alarm now...(maybe the got tired of all the ranting or maybe it is just a better quality cable).  It also maintains a charge even while gaming so if anyone wishes to confirm this on their side, would love to hear about it.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B45XCTQB?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1

in  conjunction with this Mayfan 90 degree magnetic adapter:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BXSNPX9F?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1

Now keep in mind I use the Mayfan adapter on the straight USB side of the USB Power Cable and the cable's actual 90 on the brick side.  Why?  Because, I would rather have the magnetic side on the Meta's power plug in case of accidents and it will break-away without damage to the port.

And finally, I use this Power brick to supply the ample power to the cord, and thus, the Meta Quest 3:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BVMGTSPN?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1

It is probably overkill to purchase this since it comes with two bricks and two 10ft cables (which I don't use at all, I just gave them away to apt phone users, lol).  But, the brick works well in supplying the rated 45W that the Quest can handle and the cord can push 240W, but the adapter brings it back down to 120W, also the cord has a built in safety where at around 90% will keep the Quest charged to that point instead of to the full 100% (battery lasts longer), until the unit is turned off, then it will charge to the full 100%.

Hely!

I have a quest3 and I have been using it with a battery head strap or a power injected link cable.

It was working perfectly until the last update.

Now im either getting the liquid/debris error message.

Or the headset will tell that it will charge at slower speed.

Both of them was working perfectly

Is this a new bug?

The default link they send out is to DHL in the US.

Do a Google for DHL in the UK and arrange the pickup on that site using the shipping code Meta sent you with the RMA details.

I had the same issue and this resolved it for me. My device arrived with them today.
